Running a student group can be a daunting task at times! These essential links will help you navigate the variety of resources available to registered student groups at the University of Alberta.

University of Alberta Student Group website

This page, managed by the Student Affairs Team in the Dean of Students' Office, covers everything you need to know about running student group events and includes a comprehensive list of policies you're expected to follow.

Group Leader Orientation

All student groups must complete GLO training as part of the registration process, but it’s also useful to return to these modules every once in a while to brush up on your skills! Visit the Canvas page, offered by Student Group Services, to self enrol.

Event Organizer Training

One of the mandatory training requirements for registered Student Groups, this asynchronous course is offered by the Student Affairs Team. Email their team to enrol.

Rubric

This platform hosts all registered student groups at the University of Alberta and allows them to submit events, registrations, run elections, apply for granting, track membership, etc. You can also find other groups and events by browsing the directories on our website.

Student Group Resource Hub

This is a running list of all resources available to registered student groups, based on registration level. There are so many resources available on campus, and it can be challenging to remember who offers them, and how many are offered! Our hope is that this list can help introduce your group to all the perks, supports and resources available to you, and help clarify how to access them.

Student Group Handbooks & Templates

Student Group Services manages a variety of handbooks and templates, covering everything from registering your student group, to everyday operations, to transitioning to a new team. You can find out more about specific resources in this section.

Policies

Knowing your responsibilities as a registered student group is one of your top priorities. When registering as a student group at the University of Alberta, you are required to sign a Liability Agreement. By signing this agreement, you are acknowledging that you have read the policies that pertain to student groups and agree to abide by them.

Student Conduct Policy

The Student Conduct Policy outlines unacceptable behaviour for UofA students, sanctions for offences, disciplinary action, and appeals. All student groups and individual students must abide by its policies.

Discrimination & Harassment Policy

The University of Alberta’s Discrimination and Harassment Policy includes the duty to accommodate, and the responsibility to foster an environment of respect and dignity. All student groups and individual students must abide by its policies.

Student Groups Procedure

The Student Groups Procedure outlines the University’s processes for the administration of Student Groups, including requirements for recognition, group responsibilities and benefits, event planning, and discipline . All student groups must abide by its policies.

Students' Union Bylaw 220

Governed by the Students’ Union, this bylaw outlines Student Group Conduct, including recognition requirements,, group responsibilities, complaints against groups, and investigations. All UASU recognized student groups must abide by its policies. 

Students’ Union Bylaw 150

These bylaws outline the expectations and legislation for Student Representative Associations at the University of Alberta, which are a special type of UASU recognized student group and are part of the UASU’s governance structure.

Graduate Students’ Association

The GSA recognizes groups that exist for the purpose of organizing academically-related or professional development activities, as opposed to social functions or recreational activities. Their staff can assist GSA groups with funding and confirming recognition. You can contact them by first getting in touch with SGS.
